Ingredients
1 large egg
4 hot dogs, sliced into 1″ pieces
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour, divided
1 c. milk
2 c. vegetable oil
1 c. cornmeal
1/3 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 c. melted butter
kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Mustard, for serving
Ketchup, for serving
Directions
- Add the ingedients: 1 cup flour, milk, cornmeal, sugar, melted butter, egg and baking powder in a large bowl. Stir until smooth and season with salt and pepper.
- Roll hot dogs with remaining flour and then into the cornbread mixture.
- Add enough oil to be 2” deep in a pot or skillet with high sides. Heat to 350° and fry bites until they are golden on the outside and cooked on the inside, about 4 minutes. Place on a paper towel to drain.
- Serve with ketchup and mustard (if desired).
